Lists we use

The lists behind the adult-site filter

TrapFree blocks adult sites with one list, built from open lists and from sites we check by hand. Here is every source, its licence and what we change.

No list version is active on our server yet. Until one is, every device uses the hand-checked list it was installed with.

Our own part

  • 42 adult sites we checked by hand, on every device from the start.
  • 77 regional sites a global list may miss, added to the same list for everyone.
  • 5 name patterns that catch copies of the best-known adult sites, on Android, Mac and Windows.
  • 173 sites that must never be blocked are taken out of the list, each for a written reason.

What we change

  • We merge the lists, take out the sites that must never be blocked, and keep each site only as a short code (a hash).
  • Everyone gets the same list. Your device downloads it and checks sites on the device: nothing about the sites you visit is sent to us.
  • A ranking of popular sites (Cisco Umbrella, top 1 million) helps us check the lists on our server. It is never sent to your device.

GPL and share-alike lists

HaGeZi DNS blocklists — NSFW and oisd — NSFW are licensed under the GNU General Public License, version 3. When the list holds them, the list file is under GPL-3.0 too, and you can ask us for the plain merged list: write to support@ascendify.pro.

The TrapFree apps are separate programs that only read the list file, so their own licence does not change.

UT1 blacklists (Université Toulouse Capitole) — adult is licensed CC BY-SA 4.0, so the merged list is offered to you under CC BY-SA 4.0 as well.

A site blocked by mistake, or one we missed? Write to support@ascendify.pro.
